BIG Change!!

Well, it finally caught up with me. We all were kind of suspecting it would happen, but hoping it wouldn't.

Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. So huge change to the diet. No sugar, very low carbs and an increase in proteins. I knew something was up so, from the first doctor visit to the second one two weeks later, I had already lost 6 pounds. I have lost more, just not sure how much.

As for the diabetes, I can get my blood sugar between 97-120 even up to two hours after I have eaten. The doctor said anything under 150 for 2 hours after is great.

I did have a little scare the other night. I had my metaforium (sp?) at 6:30 with dinner (I take it with breakfast and dinner). Then we went off going to a viewing, visiting Uncle Charlie in the hospital, etc. when we got back at 9:00 I was talking to Karl and thinking that I needed to take my blood pressure pill. Instead I opened the metaforium and popped it in my mouth and swallowed. I immediately thought, "Why did I do that?". I checked my blood sugar and it was 107. I called a pharmacist and he told me I had an hour to get my blood sugar up and not to go to bed until it was stable. A glass of O.J. and plum and I was up to 156. By midnight it was down to 124 and so I went to bed and checked again at 5:00 a.m. It was down to 102. Won't do that again.

I will keep you all posted on my progress. But my clothes are fitting better and I can get all four of my wedding rings on and they move freely on my finger!

We Are Alone

It is hard to believe that the time has finally come....we are alone again after 21 years. All three of our children are safely tucked away at school in Idaho.

It has been an interesting adjustment. Going to the grocery store, I can walk out with a weeks worth of groceries for under a hundred dollars. In fact, we went to Costco on Saturday and came out with four loaves of bread and a box of fruit snacks (which went to a neighbors house for grandkid snacks, due to grandpa's death.) Couldn't think of anything else we needed in large quantities.

Dinner consists of "Does a sandwich sound good to you?" and Family Home Evening is discussing yesterday's sunday school lesson that I missed because I teach primary.

We miss the kids, but we are also enjoying the time to renew our friendship again. I think we are doing well, with the exception of how long it takes to do the work around the house. We just can't get as much done in a day as we use too.

Summers Over

I always determined the end of summer by two things. First, the four summer birthdays are celebrated once again and second, my starting back to work. Today is the last summer birthday. Kimberly is officially 19 as of 3:13 this morning. And it is my last day of summer vacation. Meetings start tomorrow and classes start on Tuesday.

To celebrate Kim's big day we are going to lunch. Unfortunately, she has to work tonight so we decided to make it a girls lunch party. I also plan on stopping by the Post Office to get their passport papers. We decided to start getting all the kids passports before they go back to school in September. We have the pictures, just need to fill in the paper work and pay the money.

As for my last day of summer vacation. Summer went way too fast. I have enjoyed being at home, cleaning, cooking and just plain relaxing. I made myself a promise that this summer I would not walk back through those doors until meetings started again. I am proud to say... I did it. Technically, I only have three more years, come September 5, to reach 30 years. It is getting harder to go back each year.

Don't get me wrong. I love my profession, but the students have changed over the years. I have to get pretty creative to motivate them. If it doesn't have something to do with learning through technology gadgets, it is like pulling teeth. They want me to tell them the stories or find it on the Internet. Just plain reading, "is soooo boring". Even finding information on the computer, they want the condensed version.

Oh, there is other way I know summer is over.....the checking account is at its yearly low. Time to get to work and get that money rolling back in. (Ha Ha)

Summer 2010

What a summer! Cleaning, Cleaning, Cleaning. After a bad end to last summer with my knee and not being able to clean my house for the last year, I finally am able to get to many of the tasks that needed a good going over. Still can't kneel down but at least I am mobile.

Hope to get the kitchen floor replaced and down the hall to the bedrooms and to the front door with hardwood floors this fall. And Central Air. I am burning up!!! The swamp cooler makes these humid days horrible...so we are 30 days and counting to having it installed. I know, just in time for fall, but we are refinancing and added enough to install air. Payments will still be way less than we are paying now. Pray for cooler air. Where is that cold northern air when you need it?

Can't Believe It

It is already the 8th of Dec and I am way behind in decorating and shopping. Just can't get into the spirit of Christmas. I need about four saturdays in a row to get everything done. Oh, well what doesn't get done just won't get done.
